Tutoring Session Information

Types of Tutoring Sessions

The Reading Room tutors are available for three types of tutoring sessions.  These are listed as services in the booking form below and include an Initial Assessment Session, a Regular Tutoring Session and a Step Up for Students Session.  Each of these services has a detailed description in the “About the Curriculum” page of this website. In keeping with ongoing health concerns and social distancing parameters, we are now also offering each of the three tutoring sessions online via the Zoom teleconferencing application. Select the desired “Zoom” session in the booking form if you prefer that to an onsite session at a local library.

Customer Registration

It is not required to be a registered customer of the Reading Room in order to book a tutoring session but it is highly recommended. Without registration, customers will be required to input their first name, last name, email and phone number for each booking transaction. Registered customers have this information filled into the booking form automatically each time. Registration also allows direct access to the customer “My Sesssions” account.  You register as a new customer by clicking on the LOGIN main menu item and filling out the Register form.

Booking a Session

To book a tutoring session, select the desired service and a location most convenient for you if it is an onsite session.  Specific tutors are available at certain locations and can be selected in the “Tutor” box.  Select “Any tutor” if you have no preferred tutor.

The next booking form screen allows you to pick a date and time for your tutoring session.  Since our tutors do need some time to prepare for each individualized tutoring lesson, a one day timeframe has been built into the calendar to allow for this. We are also limiting the number of available calendar months listed to only three.  Booking times are based on the tutor’s availability for those dates.

The booking system is capable of handling multiple weekly tutoring sessions in one transaction.  To schedule more than one session, click on the “Repeat this appointment” button to enable it on the “Pick date & time” screen.  Then schedule the number of desired recurring weekly sessions.


Once time and date information has been selected, a screen showing the session information is then displayed.   Account information and credit or debit card information is required to complete the transaction.  After clicking the “Confirm” button, the customer will have an option of adding the tutoring session information to a personal calendar of their choice.


An email notification will be sent to the customer upon completion of the booking form. This email will show the session to be “Pending” until the tutor is notified and confirms the appointment.  Another email will be sent once the session is confirmed.  These emails contain direct links to the website with the customer appointment information.  Once the customer is logged in, this information can be viewed on the Customer Sessions Page.

When a tutoring session is scheduled, the customer can review the information at any time while logged in by clicking the “View My Sessions” menu item under the “Book a Session” Main Menu item.  This information can also be viewed from just below the booking form.
